Exports rose to RM384 billion in the first nine months, and total trade reached RM2.91 trillion, up 30.1%, according to the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE). The strong performance shows how Malaysian businesses can thrive even when the global economy is uncertain.
Electrical and electronic product exports increased by RM253.88 billion, a growth linked to rising global demand for artificial intelligence and digital‑technology solutions, MATRADE reported. This sector alone became the main engine of the country’s export growth.
Indera Abu Bakar Yusof, Director‑General of MATRADE, said proactive efforts helped domestic firms reach emerging markets. He added that these actions turned barriers into practical business opportunities.
Exports to non‑traditional markets grew 21.5% to RM136.36 billion, with Namibia soaring 426.1% and South Africa more than doubling at 101%, MATRADE noted. The data highlight how targeting new regions can add significant value to export portfolios.
Free‑trade‑agreement partners accounted for 62.8% of total exports, amounting to RM986.38 billion, MATRADE said. Among these partners, Mexico’s exports rose 52.1% and Vietnam’s grew 44.9%, underscoring the importance of trade agreements in sustaining growth.
