Why Flood‑Resilient Metro Stations Are Key to Ho Chi Minh City’s Future
Vì sao ga metro chống ngập là chìa khóa cho tương lai TP.HCM

The city’s plan to build flood‑resilient metro stations is a clear response to increasing climate threats. Understanding this effort helps readers see how infrastructure can protect both people and the economy.
The Department of Construction has asked the Management Authority for Urban Railways to lead research and develop metro stations that can resist flooding, as part of the city’s long‑term climate‑change adaptation strategy. This request ties directly to the city’s aim to keep essential transport working during extreme weather.
The city’s 2025‑30 master plan, which looks ahead 100 years, identifies major risks from flooding, land subsidence, rising sea levels and climate change. Because of these risks, flood prevention for underground infrastructure, especially metro projects, has become an urgent priority.
The authority must review both domestic and international technical regulations and study flood‑prevention practices in Russia, China, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Thailand. Based on this review it will propose suitable design parameters for Ho Chi Minh City’s metro projects.
It also has to calculate groundwater levels, historic flood frequencies and design water levels at ventilation shafts, tunnel portals and depots, while assessing land‑subsidence impacts and suggesting remedial measures. The proposals should include early estimates of how these actions could affect project costs and schedules, ensuring they do not disrupt priority urban railway projects slated for 2026‑30.
