Spain sees almost half of its tourism outside the traditional peak months. The Data Appeal Company study shows 52.8% of activity happens between May and September, so about half is in the off‑peak period.
The study says cultural attractions are the main reason people travel in the off‑peak season. It also notes that family vacations and wellness experiences are becoming more popular across Spanish cities and other regions.
Off‑peak demand from emerging markets has grown in the last three years. The study reports travel from Argentina rose 27.8%, from Poland 18.6% and from Brazil 13.1%.
Four in ten low‑season visitors choose upscale or luxury hotels, and in Spanish cities these rooms make up 64.8% of international demand during shoulder and low seasons. The Canary Islands also have the longest stays, with an average of 6.6 nights, compared with 3.7 nights on the Mediterranean coast.
