On October 25, 2026 the Mien Doi terraced field festival drew thousands of visitors to the golden rice terraces of Thuong Coc commune, Phú Thọ province. The event offers a clear example of how a cultural celebration can turn heritage into economic opportunity.

The festival was organised by the Thuong Coc commune People’s Committee, whose aim was to showcase the area’s natural beauty, Muong cultural identity and local agricultural products. By foregrounding these assets, the committee hopes to attract tourism that respects the landscape.

Vice Chairman Bui Manh Cuong explained that the celebration honours the generations who built the terraces and reflects the commune’s strategy of making heritage‑based tourism a key economic driver. He said this approach should help boost local incomes.

Stalls featuring One Commune One Product (OCOP) items allowed visitors to purchase local produce directly from farmers. Officials expect the exposure to expand markets for these goods and create further economic development opportunities for residents.

Cultural programmes included a new rice ceremony, folk games and traditional performances such as Thuong rang and Bo meeng melodies. These activities link Muong traditions with tourism development, giving visitors a vivid sense of the community’s heritage.

The Mien Doi festival demonstrates that heritage tourism can simultaneously preserve cultural identity, support local agriculture and improve livelihoods. It shows how a well‑planned festival can become a sustainable engine for regional growth.
