Protecting Your Digital Identity: Vietnam’s Biggest Cyber‑Attack Gateway

Microsoft’s latest security report shows that more than 73 % of initial cyber intrusions start by exploiting digital identities – things like user behaviour, legitimate accounts or phishing. This makes protecting your online identity the most important step for anyone using the internet in Vietnam.
Vietnam is a hotspot for cyber‑threat activity. In the first half of 2026 the country ranked seventh in the Asia‑Pacific region and 20th worldwide for the frequency with which Microsoft customers were affected by such attacks.
Phishing now makes up 23 % of attacks, up from 7 % a year earlier. In 52.2 % of intrusions involving legitimate accounts, attackers stole additional credentials to reach other systems.
Artificial intelligence has cut the time between discovering a vulnerability and exploiting it to less than 24 hours, accelerating the speed of attacks. The same AI tools also help defenders detect and respond faster, according to Microsoft’s findings.
Microsoft advises organisations to make digital‑identity protection the core of their security strategy, for example by using phishing‑resistant multi‑factor authentication and Zero‑Trust controls. Because compromised identities are the main gateway for attacks, strengthening them is the most effective way to reduce the risk of a breach in Vietnam.
