What Range‑Extended EVs Mean for Vietnamese Car Buyers

Xe điện mở rộng tầm hoạt động: Cơ hội mới cho người mua xe tại Việt Nam

Nguồn: Vietnamnet

Range‑extended electric vehicles (REEVs) are about to appear in Vietnam, offering a mix of electric driving and a gasoline generator. Knowing their price, range and everyday use can help you decide if they fit your budget and travel needs.

The article explains that REEV technology uses an electric motor to drive the wheels while a gasoline engine works only as an onboard generator. This set‑up lets the car run on pure electricity until the battery is low, then the engine produces electricity to keep driving. The vehicle can also be plugged into an external charger, just like a battery‑electric car.

VinFast introduced the VF Wild REEV pickup on September 19. The article says the model starts at VND860 million and promises a combined driving range of up to 1,000 km. These figures give buyers an idea of the cost and the distance the vehicle can travel without refueling.

Volkswagen’s ID. Era 9X REEV SUV is listed for under VND3 billion, according to the article. It carries a 65.2 kWh battery and a 1.5 L turbocharged gasoline generator, and the brand claims a maximum combined range of up to 1,651 km. The long range may appeal to drivers who need to cover many kilometres between charges.

The iCaur V27 REEV SUV, described in the article, features a 449 hp powertrain and a 34.41 kWh battery. It can charge from 20 % to 80 % in about 30 minutes and offers a combined range of up to 1,200 km. Such fast charging and high range could be useful for everyday trips and occasional longer journeys.

Automotive experts quoted in the article note that the appeal of REEVs in Vietnam will depend on pricing, operating costs, maintenance expenses and after‑sales service, even though the models provide long‑distance convenience. In short, Vietnamese car buyers should weigh the upfront price against the promised range and the practical support each brand offers.
