Ho Chi Minh City is trying to become a hub for high‑tech manufacturing. Understanding why stronger ties with global tech firms matter can show how the city’s economy and jobs may grow.

Executives from Singapore‑based ITO Group Holdings and TikTok Vietnam told city leaders that Ho Chi Minh City should attract more major technology manufacturers and deepen dialogue with local businesses. Their appeal was made during the Autumn Economic Forum 2026.

Peter James Opdahl, chairman of ITO Group Holdings, said Vietnam still lacks enough experienced staff in industrial automation. He also noted that the country’s supplier network for components, chips and industrial parts is less developed than in China, South Korea or Japan, which raises production costs and lengthens lead times.

Opdahl added that bringing in global high‑tech makers such as Apple, Samsung, LG, Philips, Siemens and Tesla would raise demand for automation equipment and help build a domestic supply chain. More demand could push Vietnamese firms to improve their own capabilities.

ITO Group is currently constructing a new automation‑equipment factory in Vinh Loc Industrial Park and plans to hire hundreds of additional workers. The project demonstrates the job‑creation potential of expanding high‑tech investment in the city.

The Autumn Economic Forum 2026, which gathered more than 1,500 delegates, gave businesses a chance to speak directly with city leaders. Such dialogue, combined with attracting top tech manufacturers, is seen as essential for Ho Chi Minh City’s industrial growth and employment.
