The 2026 Autumn Economic Forum highlighted that artificial intelligence is reshaping production, governance and the global economy. Ho Chi Minh City officials say the city must adapt quickly, making the topic crucial for anyone thinking about their future career.
The World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025 says AI could create 170 million new jobs but also displace 92 million by 2030. It adds that 39 percent of workers may see their current skills become outdated.
Vice‑chairman Nguyen Cong Vinh explained that Ho Chi Minh City is pursuing a new growth model built on technology, human capital and international cooperation. He stressed that adaptability, cross‑border cooperation and the role of megacities will decide long‑term success. This model aims to prepare people, institutions and data infrastructure for rapid change.
Albert Antoine, chief strategy officer and co‑founder of Avaiga, warned that AI will generate new industries but also cause significant job displacement. He argued that income support alone cannot solve the problem and pointed to Singapore’s SkillsFuture as a lifelong‑learning example. Antoine urged Vietnam to invest in education and skill upgrades to keep the workforce competitive.
Nguyen Thuy Lam Tuyen, chairwoman of ABB Vietnam, noted that ASEAN is moving toward advanced manufacturing and digital transformation. She said the region’s attractiveness now relies on a large, skilled market rather than low‑cost labour. This shift creates strong demand for talent with modern technical abilities across the bloc.
In short, the AI‑driven changes discussed at the forum mean many current jobs may disappear while new, tech‑focused roles appear. To stay competitive, Vietnamese workers need to continuously upgrade their skills and embrace lifelong‑learning programmes.
