Vietnamese Ambassador to Greece Pham Thi Thu Huong spent two days in Ioannina, a key city in northwestern Greece, to deepen cooperation between the two nations. The visit is important because it could directly affect the lives of Vietnamese migrants and the Greek food‑processing sector.
Nearly 300 Vietnamese workers live and work in Ioannina’s food‑processing plants. During her stay, the ambassador met Ioannina Mayor Thomas Begas to discuss the workers’ welfare and to ask local authorities for favourable conditions and support.
The ambassador also held working sessions with the leaders of Nitsiakos and Pindos, two major Greek food‑processing companies. Company leaders praised the Vietnamese employees for their intelligence and diligence, and they called for closer labour cooperation to resolve procedural issues and recruit more Vietnamese staff.
Ambassador Huong pledged that the Vietnamese Embassy will continue supporting both the workers and Greek businesses. She said the embassy will work to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Vietnamese workers in Greece.
The overall aim of the visit was to boost bilateral cooperation across a range of fields, delivering practical benefits to people and businesses in both Vietnam and Greece. Strengthened ties could improve conditions for Vietnamese migrants while helping Greek firms secure a reliable workforce.
