Vietnamese street‑food stalls are turning city sidewalks into bustling queues across the United States. From New York to San Francisco, authentic dishes are drawing crowds that wait for hours.
In New York, the restaurant Phe serves a sizzling‑pan banh mi that costs about $28 per serving. Diners often line the entire sidewalk to get a plate. Phe is run by chef Jerald Head and his wife Nhung Dao, who also operate Mam NYC. Mam NYC was praised by The New York Times and is known for bun dau mắm tôm.
On San Francisco’s Mission District, the pop‑up Nau Coffee draws hour‑long lines. It was founded by Vietnamese entrepreneurs Hieu Han and Trung Kien. The shop imports its Robusta beans, low red plastic chairs and phin coffee filters directly from Vietnam. The imported items create an authentic Vietnamese coffee experience.
In early 2025, Ton Thi Hong Nhu opened Banh Anh Em in central New York. The eatery quickly earned a Bib Gourmand from the Michelin Guide. Its artisan banh mi, made from scratch, attracts long queues of customers willing to wait for the flavorful sandwiches.
These stories show how passionate founders and genuine Vietnamese flavors are turning ordinary sidewalks into popular food destinations. The growing queues prove that American diners are eager to taste authentic Vietnam right on the street.
