VinFast Vietnam has just received a $436 million cash injection from its founder, Pham Nhat Vuong, through the purchase of dividend preference shares. The shares give Vuong priority for dividends but do not allow conversion into ordinary stock, according to a U.S. SEC filing.
These dividend preference shares were bought from VinFast Vietnam, a subsidiary of the larger VinFast group. They are designed to give the holder a higher claim on profits, while offering no conversion or exchange rights, as explained in the filing.
His total investment in VinFast and its subsidiaries now stands at about VND51.5 trillion, roughly $2.2 billion. Vuong said he will keep funding VinFast until he “runs out of money.”
The latest funding was used to acquire Ngoc Hoi Real Estate Investment, the developer of the Vinhomes Olympic Ngoc Hoi project. That urban development in southern Hanoi covers almost 9,200 hectares and includes residential, commercial and sports facilities.
Vuong, who is the richest person in Southeast Asia with a fortune of $37.7 billion, continues to pour his personal wealth into VinFast and related projects. His ongoing commitment shows how a billionaire can back an EV startup while expanding into large‑scale real‑estate development.
