In Vietnam, cat lovers are turning their pets into pampered royalty. The trend is evident at the World Cat Federation (WCF) shows, where owners showcase cats that live in private rooms and eat gourmet food.
Pham Thi Trang, who lives in Phu My Hung Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, displayed two Maine Coons at the 2026 WCF World Cat Show. She said a Maine Coon can cost thousands of dollars, and her most expensive cat is valued at VND150 million (US$5,811). Trang also explained that each cat has its own air‑conditioned room and is fed fresh pâté, dry food and other high‑quality meals, while regular grooming keeps their thick coats in top condition.
Duong Rau, the operator of the Bengal Mien Tay cattery in Dong Thap Province, entered several Bengal cats, including one priced at VND50‑60 million ($1,937‑2,324). Duong said the cats eat mainly chicken, quail and beef, and receive regular grooming, deworming and vaccinations. He also provides each cat with a separate enclosure of about one square metre floor area and two metres height, equipped with climbing structures and toys.
Both owners prepare their cats for WCF competitions, where some have already won awards and earned ranking points. One of Duong’s cats currently leads the WCF points ranking, and Trang’s family has opened a breeding cattery to continue the Maine Coon line. These breeding catteries, such as Trang’s cattery and Duong’s Bengal Mien Tay, show a long‑term commitment beyond a single show.
Vietnamese cat owners spend thousands on private rooms, premium diets and intensive care, turning felines into elite competitors and family members. Their dedication shows cats are treated as both companions and status symbols.
