Vietnam’s government has announced a five‑point price‑management plan that aims to keep inflation near 4.5% in 2026. The measures target everyday costs such as fuel, electricity and essential goods, so they matter to most consumers.
Deputy Minister of Finance Nguyen Duc Chi said the scenario is designed to keep average CPI growth around 4.5% in 2026, after inflation reached 4.57% in the first ten months of this year. He presented the plan at the October Steering Committee for Price Management meeting.
The plan is divided into five groups of tasks: monitoring and forecasting market prices, ensuring a stable supply of essential goods, coordinating macro‑economic policies, prudently managing price adjustments, and strengthening market inspections while reducing input costs. Each group assigns ministries, sectors and localities specific responsibilities to avoid price shocks and keep living costs stable.
Petrol tax will be zero from 1 Nov 2026 to 31 Mar 2027, cutting state revenue by about 7 trillion VND (≈272 million USD). Retail electricity prices will drop 2% from 1 Nov. The two measures could lower November CPI by about 0.5 percentage points and reduce the average 2026 CPI growth by roughly 0.08 percentage points.
The scenario also requires businesses to lower selling prices when their input costs fall. Localities that record high CPI increases must analyse the causes by commodity and service group to enable targeted price‑management measures.
If the five groups of measures are fully implemented, the expected cuts to petrol tax and electricity prices should help keep overall inflation close to the 4.5% target in 2026. This could mean slower growth in the prices that Vietnamese households pay for daily necessities.
