4:22But I've watched your career just explode
4:24and go bigger and bigger.
4:26And I listen to you -- I hear your songs all the time,
4:29and I always want to call you and, like, "I heard you again,"
4:31but, like, it would bother you.
4:33But what do you do when you're Gracie Abrams?
4:35I mean, you're at, like, a store and you hear your song,
4:37do you go like, "That's me,"
4:39or do you kind of zone out, or is it weird?
4:41-No, it's so weird. I feel like --
4:43I feel like I have voices in my head often as is.
4:48-Yeah.
4:49-And it's been a very strange experie--
4:52Like, we shot the video for a song on the album,
4:56called "Look at My Life," in Connecticut and in Jersey,
4:58but we were in Connecticut,
5:00and the whole day was basically
5:02me literally extinguishing dumpster fires.
5:04But it was, like, huge --
5:06It was these huge flames, and it was really hot,
5:07and I had to pee so bad.
5:09Anyway, the story is that I had to pee so bad,
5:11and it was the end of the day,
5:13and I kind of had, like, some burns,
5:14and it was just quite brutal.
5:16And I was so tired.
5:18Ran, ran, ran into the nearest smoke shop
5:21to use their bathroom, and my song "That's So True"
5:23was playing, and I legitimately,
5:25I was like, "I have to check myself in to a hospital."
5:28Like, this is not -- like -- [ Laughter ]
5:29-The whole day is weird. -Like, "There's no way!"
5:31We were, like, kind of in the middle of nowhere,
5:32and it was this tiny little smoke shop.
5:34And so in instances like that,
5:36it makes me feel, like, truly unwell.
5:39-Yeah. -But it is a crazy, crazy...
5:42-It's a crazy life. -...pinch-me dream.
5:43-Yeah. Weird. -Well, you also --
5:45I see videos online of all these --
5:47'Cause you have a lot of great fans around the world,
5:49but you also have some very famous fans
5:51that come to see you.
5:52Do you like knowing that famous people or celebrities
5:54are coming to see you?
5:56No. Yeah.
5:57No. No, you're just like, "Don't tell me.
5:59I'm just going to go out and perform."
6:00-When we played Glastonbury last year,
6:03um, it was already such a trip, 'cause that's
6:05kind of like the North Star, craziest dream.
6:09It dream was, like, the best weekend ever.
6:12-Yeah. -Went in.
6:14-Yes. -But we played on the Friday,
6:16and my dad, it was his birthday,
6:18and my brothers had been with him,
6:19and they were in the country,
6:21so they decided to come to the festival.
6:22I was like, "Oh, so lovely. They're not --"
6:24You know, I'm not always in the same place as my family.
6:26-Pretty cool to see your dad.
6:28-Yeah, it was very lovely.
6:29And, um, so we're on stage.
6:31I hadn't seen them before.
6:33And there's like a section that your friends and family
6:34watch from, like, the wings of the stage.
6:36I looked out and I was like, "God, what a beautiful moment."
6:39And I was like, "I gotta go find my brothers and my dad."
6:42And I looked up and it was Paul McCartney up there.
6:45-Paul McCartney was there. -Which was so, uh, nauseating.
6:51-Yeah. -I was like, "No, you're not."
6:53-"No, you're not. I didn't see that."
6:54You can't -- you can't unsee a Beatle.
6:56-It was so... -And the one and only,
6:58the coolest human, Paul McCartney.
6:59But there's actually a video of you the moment
7:02you saw Paul McCartney in the audience. Watch.

7:23-Anyway... -Last year, you wrapped up
7:25a tour that was a huge success.
7:27You started in theaters, and by the end,
7:29you had to move to giant arenas
7:31because so many people wanted to see you.
7:33That's got to feel good.
7:34But now you're about to start another arena tour.
7:36But this time, it's called A Look at My Life Tour,
7:38and this time you're preparing that it's a giant thing, right?
7:42-Yeah, I think it's -- I mean, we, for the last album,
7:46we did start in theaters.
7:47So it wasn't, you know -- the scale was not the same.
7:49And then we kind of -- -Wasn't built for arenas.
7:51-Yeah, and then we adapted to fit arenas, which was a trip.
7:56And this time, we get the luxury of starting square one,
7:59like, wildest dreams kind of, um, stage and design.
8:05And, yeah, I'm really excited.
8:07-And I know that you opened up for Olivia Rodrigo,
8:09you've opened up for Taylor Swift,
8:11and now you're the person
8:13that gets to give somebody their kind of
8:15a little break in the business.
8:17They're your opening acts on your tour,
8:19which I think is super cool. -They're brilliant.
8:21The roster that we have, I can't believe it.
8:23Like, I'm sure you all know their music, but...

9:33like, I'm a wildly unique case.
9:35I just think the inevitable friction of being a child
9:38and, you know, growing into yourself
9:41and being a defiant person, it, like, can be turbulent.

13:18uh, kind of synonymous to "Daughter from Hell,"
13:20but it was a nickname I was given by Justin Vernon,
13:22who was a collaborator on the project.
13:24He called me Basement Lady.

13:27-What are you talking about? -He called me Basement Lady.
13:29He meant kind of like, I think, like, emotionally, like...
13:32-[Laughing] That is the worst nickname ever.
13:35-I know, but it stuck. -Yeah.
13:36-There was no title until "Daughter from Hell."
13:38And I was like, "It should be Basement Lady maybe."
13:40And then when "Daughter from Hell"
13:42came around, I was like, Basement Lady
13:45and "Daughter from Hell"? [Laughter]
13:47-These are the things that you want to get out of your brain.
13:49-Yeah, they're just like, you're both down there.
