Father and Son’s 2,200 km Motorbike Trip Shows How Planning and Flexibility Lead to Success

Huy spent three months preparing. He studied the route, serviced the motorbike, reinforced the rear storage and added a rack to carry a small bicycle for his son, so they could ride it when the weather was good.
Each day they aimed to travel 200‑250 km. They left home at 5 am to avoid the midday heat and tried to reach a town or a beach by 4 pm, where they could rest and cool off.
In Ha Tinh the bike got a flat tire under the hot sun. With no shop nearby, Huy and Khang pushed the bike for more than 4 km before they could repair it.
The heat in central Vietnam was intense, and Khang sometimes felt tired, with back pain and body aches. When this happened, Huy let him rest, gave gentle encouragement, and found a safe place to stop.
Along the way, strangers offered them cheap rooms. In Thanh Hoa a guesthouse cut the VND700,000 nightly rate in half, and another owner in Ha Giang gave a similar discount. The whole trip cost about VND20 million.
Their story teaches three useful lessons: plan the route and the bike well before you travel; set realistic daily distances and start early to beat the heat; and stay flexible, resting when needed and solving problems like a flat tire quickly.
