New Study: Mounjaro Reduces Heart Attack Risk

Mounjaro is a type of medicine that helps treat type 2 diabetes and obesity. It is currently used in the NHS for these conditions.
A study in America looked at nearly 53,000 people with type 2 diabetes and heart disease who took either Mounjaro or another diabetes medicine.
The scientists watched for major heart problems, including heart attacks, strokes, and deaths.
After one year, the risk of these problems was 2.9% for people taking Mounjaro and 4.4% for those taking the other medicine. This means that one case can be prevented for every 70 people treated.
Mounjaro reduced the risk of heart attacks by one-third.
The study also found that Mounjaro reduced hospital admissions due to infections. One admission was prevented for every 48 patients.
This reduction in hospital admissions is important for patient care. The medicine helped prevent infections that required hospital treatment.
Mounjaro also prevented one death for every 122 patients treated.
The researchers said that this study shows how Mounjaro can help reduce heart problems and inform treatment decisions.
