He signed two orders to limit this right, even though the Supreme Court said no to his previous attempt.
Here are five simple questions about what is happening.
What did Trump do?
He signed two orders to restrict birthright citizenship.
The right to become a citizen by being born in the US is protected by the US Constitution.
Trump's attempt to end automatic citizenship has reached the Supreme Court.
Trump thinks birthright citizenship is expensive and unfair.
One order stops pregnant foreigners from coming to the US to give birth.
The other order limits citizenship for certain groups of people.
These groups include children of foreign government workers and people who lied to get citizenship.
Didn't the Supreme Court already stop this?
Yes and no.
The Supreme Court did stop Trump's first attempt, but these new orders are slightly different.
Trump is trying to change the rules by looking at old exceptions to citizenship.
The Supreme Court said no to Trump's first attempt.
Will these orders work?
It depends on which order we are talking about.
The order to stop birth tourism might not be fair.
The government already considers it fraud to lie about why you are traveling to give birth.
Previous governments also tried to stop birth tourism.
Stephen Miller says Trump has the power to ban birth tourism.
Miller is confident Trump can ban birth tourism.
Any attempt to limit citizenship will likely go to court.
Many groups think this attempt will fail.
They say the Constitution is clear about who is a citizen.
The Supreme Court already decided this issue.
No executive order can change the Constitution.
Is birth tourism a real problem?
The Trump government says it is.
But there is no official number of births from birth tourism.
About 26,000 births might be from birth tourism each year.
The Center for Immigration Studies estimated 20,000 to 25,000 mothers came for birth tourism.
People protested Trump's first attempt outside the Supreme Court.
What do the orders mean for female travelers?
It's not clear how these orders will be enforced.
The orders could hurt the rights of pregnant women.
The government should follow the Supreme Court ruling.
