Japanese-French Patisserie Pantler May Close After 12 Years

Pantler announced this news on Instagram, saying they hope to find the right person to continue the brand. If not, the business will close on August 30, 2026.
Pantler was started in 2014 by Matthias Phua from Singapore and Japanese pastry chef Tomoharu Morita.
The business is closing due to common problems in the food and beverage industry, according to Phua.
Phua said, 'It's not sustainable. The current market is making it hard to keep the business going.'
Pantler is looking for a buyer to take over the business and brand.
The owners thought about giving up the physical shop and focusing on online orders from a central kitchen.
However, Phua said this change would still cost a lot and they can't be sure it would work.
Phua used to be a writer, but he started baking. Chef Morita worked with Grand Hyatt Tokyo's award-winning pastry team for nearly a decade. They met at the Tokyo hotel and later worked at Joel Robuchon Singapore.
Pantler opened as a small bakery with the goal of making good products that people would enjoy.
It became popular for its Japanese-French pastries.
After the pandemic, Pantler moved to a larger space with a dine-in area at River Valley Road in February 2021.
The team said it was an honor to be part of customers' special moments, like birthdays and weddings, and quiet afternoons with cake and coffee.
One of Pantler's signature cakes is the Yatsura, a rich chocolate-hazelnut cake.
Other popular items include the Chou a la Creme, Pantler Cheesecake, and Strawberry Shortcake.
The patisserie also offers croissants, tarts, cookies, and seasonal creations.
If no buyer is found, Pantler will serve its last bakes on August 30.
Phua hasn't made plans for what's next, saying he will settle this first.
He said, 'I will deal with this, then see what happens next.'
For now, Phua hopes Pantler will continue under a new owner.
Pantler is located at 474 River Valley Road, open from Tuesday to Sunday, 10:30 am to 6:30 pm, and closed on Mondays. More information is on Instagram.
