Iranian people in Saskatoon held a ceremony to remember lives lost in Iran.

40,000 people died in protests against the Iranian government in January.

The University of Saskatchewan’s Iranian Students’ Association organized the ceremony. They want Canadians to know more about the Iranian government’s actions.

Sepideh Gorji said the media does not cover Iran enough. The Iranian government is the same as the IRGC, a group Canada recognizes as terrorist. They want to spread awareness and remember the victims.

The Iranian community in Saskatoon has been protesting almost every week since January.

Gathering is important for the community during this difficult time.

The ceremony reminds them of their goal: freedom and democracy in Iran. They will not forget this goal despite the challenges they face.
