StubHub's Stock Drops Due to Lawsuits Over Unissued FIFA World Cup Tickets
StubHub made a lot of money last quarter, but now it has to give some back. This is because it sold FIFA World Cup tickets that were not yet available.
The company is facing lawsuits and is now losing money. Its stock value is also dropping quickly.
A technology expert said, 'It seems like StubHub got what it deserved.' Many people are not upset about this.
However, soccer fans who bought tickets on StubHub were upset. They found out the tickets they paid for were not real.
One fan said, 'This was the most frustrating experience I've had in 10 years.' He bought tickets to see Haiti play, but they could not get in.
The fan, Rodrigue Alexandre, had bought tickets for his family. But when they got to the stadium, they were not allowed to enter.
Alexandre said, 'StubHub can sell you a ticket, but it's not yours until FIFA says so.'
StubHub allowed sellers to list tickets before FIFA made them available. But the CEO blamed FIFA's ticket system.
A business professor said, 'The process was long and confusing. FIFA did not make it easy.'
A lawyer is helping clients who paid for tickets on StubHub but never got them. He is based in California.
The lawyer has 275 cases against StubHub and has recovered $2.2 million so far.
He said, 'My clients need help because they were treated unfairly.'
The lawyer said one problem was that StubHub sold tickets before FIFA started issuing them. FIFA began selling tickets in September 2025.
The lawyer said, 'Before then, there were no tickets. It was all just an idea.'
