Why HMS Spey is Visiting Ho Chi Minh City

The ship will stay in the city until October 28. During the visit it will take part in naval exchanges, cultural events and charitable activities.
The crew will make courtesy calls on Ho Chi Minh City leaders, Military Region 7 Command and Naval Region 2 Command. They will also visit local schools, join charity events and do joint training with Vietnamese sailors.
HMS Spey is a second‑generation River‑class offshore patrol vessel. It was commissioned in 2021, is about 90 metres long and is built for patrol, surveillance and maritime security missions.
The British Consulate General says the ship is deployed long‑term in the Indo‑Pacific region. It works with partners on border patrols, anti‑smuggling, fisheries protection, counter‑terrorism and joins international exercises and humanitarian aid.
