The city is conducting greenhouse‑gas emission inventories at 360 facilities, and 240 of them have already prepared reduction plans for 2026‑2030. These inventories help officials monitor progress toward the city’s climate objectives.
Around 68 % of the municipal bus fleet now runs on electricity or other green energy sources, and the government aims for a complete transition by early 2027. An action plan covering 18 environmental targets seeks to raise the green economy’s share to at least 10 % of GRDP by 2030. The same plan also targets a reduction of greenhouse‑gas emissions of at least 9 % compared with a business‑as‑usual scenario.
Ho Chi Minh City is taking part in Vietnam’s national carbon‑market roadmap, and it plans to expand mangrove forests in the Can Gio area. The city also intends to replace landfill‑based waste disposal with waste‑to‑energy incineration that can generate electricity. At the 2026 Business Partner City Roundtable, officials highlighted international cooperation and the sharing of best practices among BPC member cities to support sustainable development.
The city’s strategy links building standards, clean transport, carbon‑market participation, and ecosystem restoration into a single roadmap. This integrated approach shows how urban centres can combine policy tools and global partnerships to move toward a greener future.
