Wild Honey is a band with a famous family history. They come from the same family as Yothu Yindi and King Stingray.

Short story:

Wild Honey played their first show in 2024. This year, they played a big show at the Garma Festival in front of many happy people.

The band has two members who are the grandsons of a famous Australian musician, Dr M Yunupiŋu.

Wild Honey plays their own songs and also songs from their famous family members, like Yothu Yindi and Warumpi Band.

The lead singer of Yothu Yindi used to play guitar under a tree by the beach. His grandsons would watch him and learn.

Now, those grandsons have grown up and started their own band, Wild Honey.

Yothu Yindi's lead singer passed away in 2013, but his grandson Gawukawu Gurruwiwi still remembers him and wants to make him proud.

The grandsons of Yothu Yindi's lead singer want to play music at the MCG and other big places.

Gawukawu Gurruwiwi said, 'My grandfather used to bring us toys like drums, bass, and guitar.'

They would set up the instruments on a rock and play music together.

They imagined the rock was a stage and they were playing for the trees, crabs, and seagulls.

Now, Wild Honey is becoming famous like Yothu Yindi was many years ago.

Wild Honey played a big show at the Garma Festival, which is an important event for Indigenous people.

Wild Honey wants to be famous and play on the red carpet.

The guitarist, Adrian Schmidt Mumm, said he feels like he's finally doing something special with Wild Honey.

He met the other band members when he was teaching music at their school.

He said, 'It feels like we're rising very fast.'

Wild Honey is excited to play at the Garma Festival and other big events.

The band members are not afraid to say they want to be famous and play music all around the world.

Balumba Gondarra said, 'We want to see the bright lights of the world and play on the red carpet.'

He wants to play at the MCG in Melbourne and see the world.

The band members have never been to big cities like Sydney, Melbourne, or Canberra.

Music is in their blood.

Wild Honey pays respect to their musical heroes, like Yothu Yindi and Warumpi Band, by playing their songs.

They have been helped by other famous bands, like King Stingray.

Gawukawu Gurruwiwi said, 'We grew up with music in our blood.'

They used to play music under a special tree with their grandfather.

Their grandfather's legacy will help the next generation of musicians.

Wild Honey played at the Garma Festival with other famous musicians, like Emma Donovan and Baker Boy.

They will play again at the East Arnhem Live festival on August 29.
