Why a $30 Million Green Loan Matters for Vietnam’s Climate and Small Businesses

Nam A Bank signed a $30 million financing facility with Proparco, a subsidiary of the French Development Agency (AFD), at the AFD office in Hanoi. The agreement follows a memorandum of understanding signed in Paris in March 2026.

The facility is earmarked for projects in renewable energy, energy efficiency, climate‑change mitigation and adaptation, and green buildings.

Deputy General Director Vo Hoang Hai said the loan reflects Proparco’s confidence in the bank’s governance and will support Nam A Bank’s ‘Digitalization and Greening’ strategy, which aims to provide affordable credit to SMEs, women‑led enterprises and sustainable‑agriculture models.

Jean‑Benoit Du Chalard, Proparco’s regional director for North and Southeast Asia, said the partnership is expected to support Vietnam’s emissions‑reduction efforts.

By linking international green capital to local small‑business needs, the deal shows how strong governance can attract development finance, channel funds into low‑carbon projects, and help sectors that are most vulnerable to climate risks.
