Why Singapore’s fuel prices jumped over 3% in just 10 days

On Wednesday, Caltex, Esso and Shell all listed 95 octane gasoline at SGD 3.49 per litre, which is a 3.6 % rise compared with the price on Sept 6, according to fuel‑data platform Motorist.sg.

The same 3.6 % increase was seen for 92 octane gasoline, which climbed to SGD 3.46 per litre. Overall, gasoline prices in Singapore have risen about 22 % since the start of the year.

The jump in pump prices coincided with diesel breaking the SGD 4 per litre mark across major brands – a level not seen since late June.

Over the past week, Brent crude oil has risen roughly 6.5 % as tension in the Middle East escalated. Iran‑backed Houthi forces launched fresh attacks on Saudi Arabia and Gulf Arab states postponed planned talks with Iran, raising fears of a wider conflict that could affect global oil supplies.

When gasoline and diesel become more expensive, everyday commuters and businesses that depend on these fuels feel the impact through higher travel and transport costs.
