Last year, Charity tried to be a surrogate for her granddaughter Sarah, but she got pregnant naturally. She kept it a secret, and Sarah thought the surrogacy plan worked.

Dr. Caitlin Todd found out the truth and blackmailed Charity for money. This led to a disturbing scene where Dr. Todd assaulted Charity.
