Tokyo Mother Builds $3.3M Investment Portfolio

Choruko started investing in 2011 with money from her father. She did not pay much attention to her investments for seven years.

In 2018, her husband quit his job due to stress. Choruko then checked their finances and found her investments had grown to nearly $145,000.

Choruko was pregnant and studied stock charts and trading strategies because she expected a tax increase in Japan.

During her maternity leave in 2019, Choruko started day trading. She invested in Tokyo Electron shares and used margin trading.

While taking care of her baby, Choruko watched stock prices on her phone and made over 1,000 trades a month. Her portfolio grew to $450,000 in six months.

By 2021, Choruko was making around $4,500 a day from trading, and her assets were over $900,000. But she became too confident in her abilities.

Choruko then focused on technology stocks, expecting strong earnings to increase their value. She invested heavily in AI Inside Inc.

The stock price fell after the company's earnings announcement, and Choruko lost $22,000 in one day. Her assets fell to $620,000 by July 2021.

Choruko realized she had not considered that the expected earnings were already reflected in the stock price.

She said she was acting like a gambler without a logical basis for her actions.

Choruko returned to trading after finding a company that would pay a high dividend. This trade helped her assets grow to $790,000.

When her maternity leave ended, Choruko changed her strategy to swing trading, focusing on large companies during market downturns.

This strategy helped her make money during periods of high market volatility. In 2022, she made $4,500 in one day.

In 2026, market turbulence reduced her portfolio's value by $82,000. Choruko bought more stocks during the sell-off, and her portfolio recovered.

Choruko left her job to have more time for investment research. She started other businesses and hired help to manage her time and household chores.
