Tampines Changkat tries new way to reduce cicada noise

Singapore tried a new way to manage cicadas in Tampines Changkat.

The five-month trial started in March to manage the insects.

They used light traps and caught cicadas at some blocks.

They also wrapped trees with foil or plastic to stop cicadas.

This stopped the cicadas from growing into adults.

About 22,000 cicadas were caught.

Cicadas are very loud and can hurt our ears.

The trial ended, but it helped us learn about cicadas.

They found that cicadas like some tree types and areas.

The number of cicadas varies due to tree age and environment.

There's no standard way to manage cicadas in cities.

It's hard to manage cicadas because we don't know much.

The taskforce will prepare for the next cicada season.
