Famous Hawker Ng Hock Chuan Dies at 79

Ng Hock Chuan, a well-known hawker, has died at 79. He was the man behind Ah Hock Fried Hokkien Noodles.

Ng died on July 16, according to a post on Facebook.

Ng was famous for his traditional Hokkien mee. He helped create the Singapore-style Hokkien mee.

A customer visited Chomp Chomp Food Centre to eat Ng's Hokkien mee, but found the stall closed. A nearby hawker told the customer that Ng had passed away.

The customer remembered Ng as a humble and dedicated hawker. The customer grew up eating Ng's Hokkien mee.

Ng was never loud or showy. He smiled at customers and then focused on cooking.

The family of Ng has not commented on his death yet.

Ng's father, Ng Seng, started frying Hokkien mee in the 1950s. Ng was his fourth son.

In 1966, Ng started his own Hokkien mee business. He began selling at Chomp Chomp Food Centre in the 1970s.

Ah Hock Fried Hokkien Noodles was popular for its yellow noodles and bee hoon with prawns and pork. It was listed in the Michelin Guide Singapore since 2018.

Many customers are sad about Ng's death. They said his Hokkien mee was the best.

One customer said Ng's Hokkien mee was unbeatable. The customer has not found a similar taste yet.

Another customer loved Ng's fried Hokkien mee. The customer is sad that Ng has passed away.

It is not clear if Ah Hock Fried Hokkien Noodles will reopen.

The stall is open from Tuesday to Friday, 5:30 pm to 10 pm, and Saturday and Sunday, 4:30 pm to 10 pm and 9 pm respectively. It is closed on Monday.
