Health Canada recalls generic acetaminophen – what you need to do now

Health Canada issued a recall for Novo‑Gesic Forte 500 mg acetaminophen tablets sold by Teva Canada Limited because the product might contain phenolic resin or epoxy.

Health Canada said the recall targets one lot of Novo‑Gesic Forte 500 mg acetaminophen tablets that Teva Canada Limited distributed. The tablets were supplied to pharmacies in 1,000‑count bottles and then dispensed to patients in smaller packages.

The agency warned that the possible presence of phenolic resin or epoxy could cause injury to the digestive system if swallowed.

Consumers are instructed to stop using the product right away and to bring any remaining tablets back to the pharmacy where they were purchased for a replacement and proper disposal.

People who have already taken the medication and are worried about their health should consult their healthcare provider.

Customers may contact Teva Canada Customer Care for questions, and any side‑effects or complaints should be reported to Health Canada.

Health Canada added that it is monitoring the recall and will take further action if additional safety concerns arise.
