Anthropic Introduces Claude Opus 5, a Safer AI Model

Anthropic has introduced a new AI model called Claude Opus 5, which is similar to Claude Fable 5 but costs less.

Claude Opus 5 was released on Friday. It is now the default model on Claude Max, a $100 monthly plan. It is also available on Claude Pro, a $20 monthly plan.

Opus 5 is designed for daily use and is more efficient than previous models.

Opus 5 is Anthropic's most aligned model, following human values and safety rules. It is also more efficient.

Compared to other models, Opus 5 is less deceptive and less likely to be misused. It is Anthropic's safest model yet.

In one test, Opus 5 solved a new problem three times faster than the next best model. It also scored nearly four times higher than OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol.

Opus 5 performs better or the same as Fable 5 in most tests. However, it is not as good in health and legal tests. It beats OpenAI's GPT 5.6 Sol in most tests, except for coding.

Anthropic is proud of Opus 5's science tests, calling it the most capable model for scientific research. However, Mythos 5 is better in biology research.

Opus 5 is not good at cybersecurity on purpose. Anthropic did not train it for such tasks. It can still find vulnerabilities but is not good at exploiting them.

This choice is important after an OpenAI agent recently hacked a client's server. Opus 5 was trained with safety in mind.

Claude Opus 5 is available as of July 24 across Anthropic's platforms.

Opus 5 is now the default model on Claude Max and the strongest model on Claude Pro. It costs $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens.

Opus 5 is priced the same as Opus 4.8. It is a safer and more efficient model.
