Indonesia Reduces Visa-Free Entry by 88%

Indonesia had 53,000 visa-free arrivals in the first half of this year, which is 88% less than the same time in 2025.

The Director General of Immigration said this change is part of a plan to improve immigration management using digital tools and better screening.

Indonesia gave out 3.9 million visas in six months, which is 6.8% less than the year before.

Most visas were for people visiting, with 3.5 million given out, and some for workers and investors.

Even with fewer visa-free arrivals, the government made 6.4% more money from visas than the year before.

Most visitors came from Australia, then China, India, South Korea, and the US.

Indonesia is also enforcing immigration rules more strictly.

The government punished over 10,900 people for breaking immigration rules and sent over 3,260 people back to their countries.

The goal now is to have a selective immigration system that helps the economy and keeps the country safe.
