Spain Expects $401M from Solar Eclipse Tourists

The solar eclipse will happen on August 12. It will bring visitors to areas where the eclipse can be seen clearly. This event is during Spain's summer holiday season.

Many people from other countries are already interested.

People from outside Spain are booking hotels in Soria, a province in northern Spain. Bookings for August 12 and 13 are up 522%.

Bookings are also up in other northern provinces like León, Palencia, and Burgos.

Hotels in areas with good views are full. Campsites are also full, so people are looking for other places to stay.

Camper vans are another option for people watching the eclipse.

Luis López from Aseicar said rental vehicles are selling out fast. Bookings started months ago.

Many companies are adding more vehicles because of the high demand.

More people will travel by air.

The government expects a 7.9% increase in airline seats this week. Air bookings are up in northern destinations.

Air bookings are up more than 90% in places like Santander, Asturias, and Bilbao.

Renfe will offer more train seats from August 7 to 16. They will add more services in northern Spain.

Spain had 96.8 million tourists in 2025, a record high. It is the second-most-visited country after France.

In the first six months of 2026, 46.57 million international visitors came to Spain. This is 4.6% more than last year.
