Phu Quoc’s Tourist Boom and APEC 2027 Turn the Island into a Future Hotspot

Phu Quoc’s tourism is heating up faster than many expected, and the island is also set to host a major international summit. Both trends make the island a focal point for future travel and investment.

In October, Phu Quoc welcomed 673,000 tourists, a 30% rise from the previous year, according to An Giang Province's Department of Tourism. The island’s popularity is clearly accelerating.

The province had aimed for 8.5 million visitors, including 2 million foreigners, in the whole year. In the first ten months it already recorded 2.1 million foreign arrivals, beating the target by 5% and up 59% year‑on‑year.

Industry insiders said APEC 2027 could reshape Phu Quoc's tourism sector by expanding international connectivity, drawing more business events and encouraging a shift towards higher‑value, year‑round tourism, Vietnam News Agency reported. They expect the summit to raise the island’s profile among global travelers.

The island is preparing to host the summit in November 2027 with major investments in aviation, transport and conference infrastructure. These projects aim to support the expected increase in visitors and business activities.

Phu Quoc’s rapid visitor growth and the upcoming APEC summit together point to a new era of higher‑value, year‑round tourism. Investors and travelers alike should watch the island as it transforms into a regional hotspot.
