Why Xuan Travels 80 km Every Day
Vì sao Xuan di chuyển 80 km mỗi ngày?
Source: Vietnamnet
Xuan lives in Phu Xuyen Commune, about 40 km from her workplace in Cau Giay Ward, Hanoi. She travels 80 km round‑trip each day, so her story shows why some people keep a city job while staying in the countryside.
Xuan combines an electric bike, a bus and a motorbike to reach work. Xuan said she pays VND5,000 a day to park her electric bike, VND25,000 a day for motorbike parking, VND280,000 a month for a bus pass and about VND300,000 a month for fuel. These costs total nearly VND1.3 million each month. She works Monday‑Friday from 8:30 am to 6 pm and has weekends off.
Xuan said the rent for a place in the inner city would be VND5‑6 million a month, which is a main reason she stays in the countryside. She also said her young child needs care, so living with her parents‑in‑law helps with housework, meals and childcare. This family support lets her keep her city job. Xuan said she saves on rent, electricity, water and food by living in the countryside.
The high cost of city living and the help from her parents‑in‑law make the long commute worthwhile for Xuan. Her example shows how financial and family factors can shape daily travel choices.
