In front of Doan Thi Diem Secondary School, about a dozen big rocks were fixed to the sidewalk. The strange barrier shows how people tried to stop illegal parking.
Local residents placed the rocks on the pavement to keep cars from parking on the sidewalk. The rocks were set in cement, covering the newly built walkway in Dak Lak Province. This was done because drivers often used the path to park their cars.
The school’s principal, Tran Mau Hoa, said the school was not responsible for the rocks. He also warned that the rocks could be a safety hazard for students and pedestrians, especially at night when they are hard to see.
Authorities later removed the rocks to ensure pedestrian safety. The removal shows that officials acted after the community’s risky solution caused concern.
