Vietnam and the Nordic countries have opened fresh trade, investment and technology‑transfer opportunities. The real challenge now is turning the diplomatic frameworks into concrete projects, contracts and production capacity, which makes this story important for businesses.

Bilateral ties are gaining momentum thanks to new agreements. The Vietnam‑Norway Green Strategic Partnership and the recently signed Vietnam‑EFTA Free Trade Agreement both cover science‑tech cooperation and broader trade rules.

For companies, predictable licensing, fast approvals and access to green power – including direct power‑purchase agreements – are essential. They also need to study the FTA text, test product fit and prepare for market standards.

The payoff can be significant. Norwegian firms will find easier entry to the Vietnamese market, while Norwegian seafood such as salmon and mackerel will enjoy zero tariffs once the agreements take effect. In addition, the maritime, circular‑economy and energy sectors offer new business chances.

Ho Chi Minh City wants to move beyond simple trade promotion and start co‑building development capacity with Nordic partners. By attracting Nordic technology, governance standards and innovation in clean energy, sustainable transport, circular economy, hi‑tech industry and smart cities, the city hopes to lift Vietnamese firms up the value chain and boost the wider economy.
