Vietnam’s nominal per‑capita GDP is forecast at US$5,259 for 2026, which represents an 8.9% year‑on‑year increase, according to the International Monetary Fund. This rapid rise makes Vietnam’s economic outlook especially interesting for young people watching job and investment trends.

High‑tech manufacturers such as semiconductor and electronic equipment producers are moving production to Vietnam as alternatives to China, Nikkei Asia reported. The shift adds higher‑value activity and helps lift per‑capita GDP.

The government plans to spend about VND1 quadrillion (US$38.7 billion) on public investment in 2026, funding roads, airports and other infrastructure projects across the country. Such spending is intended to support both short‑term growth and longer‑term competitiveness.

Exports grew to US$434.3 billion in the first nine months of the year, up 25% year‑on‑year, providing a strong boost to the economy. This export surge reinforces the upward trend in per‑capita income.

Vietnam is projected to exceed Indonesia’s per‑capita GDP of US$5,153 in 2026, moving Vietnam to fifth place among ASEAN members. The overtaking highlights how the country’s manufacturing pull, public investment and export strength are reshaping the regional ranking.
