Nguyen Thu Ha, a 23‑year‑old from Hanoi, left a stable graphic‑design job to work with a blowtorch. She now makes delicate glass flowers that look like real blossoms. Her story highlights how AI is reshaping creative careers.
Ha worked four years as a graphic designer. She said artificial intelligence is developing quickly and the design industry has been affected, prompting her to look for work that AI would find difficult to replace.
A few months ago she saw an online video of a glass lotus and became fascinated. Without any formal training, Ha taught herself lampworking by watching tutorials and practicing the technique at home.
Using a torch that can reach temperatures of 1,400‑1,600 °C, she melts colored glass rods and shapes each petal by hand. The finished flowers sell for roughly $20‑$40 each, depending on design complexity.
Ha believes the hands‑on nature of glass‑flower making protects her work from being easily automated. Her choice shows that some artists may turn to crafts where human skill remains essential despite AI’s rise.
