Vietnam has removed the special consumption tax on all gasoline starting 1 November 2026. The change is expected to lower the price you pay at the pump.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Van Thang signed Resolution No. 45/2026, which reduces the gasoline tax to zero from 1 November 2026 until 31 March 2027. The tax cut applies to every type of gasoline sold in the country.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade announced that the new retail price for E5RON92 will be VND24,223 per litre and for E10RON95‑III VND24,159 per litre, both about VND64 cheaper than the former E5RON92 price. At the current exchange rate this equals roughly US$0.94 per litre.

According to the same ministry, Vietnam’s $0.94 per litre is cheaper than gasoline in Thailand ($1.27), Cambodia ($1.25), Laos ($1.88) and China ($1.41). The lower fuel cost is meant to ease household expenses and help keep inflation within the government’s target.

Deputy Prime Minister Thang said the tax cut, together with a two‑percent cut in electricity prices, provides an additional 0.07 percentage points of room to keep inflation within the target range. This extra margin should make it easier for the authorities to meet their price‑stability goals.

The government warned that the tax relief could be shortened or extended depending on economic conditions, energy‑security needs and fuel‑market developments. Consumers should watch for any future announcement that may affect pump prices again.
