The iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable, sparked huge excitement in Vietnam, but within days many buyers began selling the device at a loss. Understanding why this happens reveals how product concerns and market shifts can affect consumer decisions.

Quan Huynh, who runs Huynh Nguyen Store in Ho Chi Minh City, says many owners are willing to lose several million dong because they fear the screen might crack. He also notes that users find the Duo bulky and hard to handle.

Apple has publicly acknowledged reports of cracked screens on the iPhone Duo, which sparked widespread concern among Vietnamese buyers. The media coverage amplified the perception that the new foldable is fragile.

During the first two days after launch, resellers could earn a profit of VND12‑15 million per unit because supply was scarce. As stocks arrived and the premium disappeared, resale prices fell to near‑retail levels, with a 256 GB iPhone Duo now selling for just over VND65 million.

Some traders still manage modest gains because certain buyers receive bank‑card discounts of VND1‑3 million, allowing them to resell slightly below the official price yet keep a small margin. Dao Huy Viet recalled a customer who paid VND129 million for a 2TB iPhone Duo but sold it two days later for VND110 million, incurring a loss of VND19 million.
