The latest consumer‑price data shows Vietnam’s inflation is accelerating, and the change matters for anyone budgeting daily expenses. Understanding which items are getting more expensive helps you avoid surprise costs.
According to the National Statistics Office under the Ministry of Finance, the overall CPI rose 0.2% in October, bringing the year‑to‑date inflation rate to 4.57% over the first ten months. Core inflation averaged 4.24% in the same period, a little lower than the headline figure.
The same office reported that food and catering services increased 4.61% year‑on‑year, contributing 1.65 percentage points to the overall CPI rise. This means meals, groceries and restaurant bills are becoming noticeably pricier for households.
Housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction materials together rose 6.66%, adding 1.51 percentage points to the CPI, the statistics office said. Higher costs in these categories affect rent, utility bills and the price of building or repairing homes.
Transport prices jumped 6.98%, while fuel surged 13.09%, adding 0.7 percentage points to the CPI, the National Statistics Office said. These increases directly affect commuting costs and the price of goods delivered by road.
In short, the biggest drivers of the 4.57% inflation rate are food, housing‑related services and transport. Vietnamese consumers can expect everyday expenses in these areas to keep climbing, so careful budgeting will become even more important.
