A Hanoi couple built a small container home in the countryside so they can enjoy nature on weekends without leaving their city jobs. Their story shows how a modest, step‑by‑step project can give a family a cheap weekend retreat.

The couple ordered two containers, each 18 sqm, and joined them to make a 36 sqm house. They completed the order, transport and installation in about 30 days, paying roughly VND400 million. They built the house in stages, matching the money they could spend at each time.

Later they added a living room, kitchen, storage, outdoor bathroom and a glass room, increasing the usable space to around 90 sqm. In total they have spent about VND1 billion on the whole retreat, according to the couple.

From Monday to Friday the family works and studies in Hanoi. On weekends they drive to their 368 sqm garden, live in the container home, grow vegetables, plant fruit trees and keep chickens that lay eggs every day and give chemical‑free food.

Their experience shows that building a modest container home step by step can create an affordable countryside haven. It lets urban families balance work, family time and nature without a large upfront cost.
