Italian Film Week arrived in Ho Chi Minh City this week, offering Vietnamese audiences a rare glimpse into contemporary Italian society through cinema. The festival illustrates how film can act as a bridge between two cultures, a theme worth exploring.

The six‑day programme runs from 2 to 7 November at Galaxy Cinema Nguyen Du, showing six Italian films in consecutive daily screenings. The event is organised by the Consulate General of Italy in Ho Chi Minh City and the film selection is curated by the Organising Committee of the Asian Film Festival.

Consul General Alessandra Tognonato emphasized that cinema is more than entertainment; it is a powerful way to understand another country’s culture, history, values and everyday life. She hopes the six films will let Vietnamese viewers discover contemporary Italy from different perspectives.

All screenings are presented in the original Italian language, with English and Vietnamese subtitles, ensuring both authenticity and accessibility for Vietnamese audiences. This approach lets viewers experience the films as they were made while still being able to follow the story.

Salvatore Banco, acting vice‑chairman of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam, said the festival promotes Italian culture, strengthens the Italian business presence, and deepens Italy‑Vietnam connections. He described the event as a perfect opportunity to share cultural values through movies.
