The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) issued a recommendation on Nov 2 amid concerns about developments in the Middle East. It asks Thai residents to prepare a 72‑hour emergency bag for possible floods, earthquakes or other crises.
DDPM lists six categories of essentials. Category 1 is medicines and medical supplies, such as a first‑aid kit, household medicines, prescription drugs and copies of medical records. Category 2 is food and drinking water; about three liters of water per person each day (nine liters total) and ready‑to‑eat meals or snacks. Category 3 includes communication devices and emergency tools like a mobile phone, charger, flashlight, radio, whistle, candles, a notebook and a pocketknife.
Category 4 covers important documents and cash, kept in a waterproof pouch together with spare keys. Category 5 is personal hygiene supplies, for example tissues, toothbrushes, toothpaste and basic toiletries. Category 6 is clothing and bedding, such as extra clothes, raincoats, hats and blankets or sleeping bags.
DDPM director‑general Nirat Pongsitthaworn advises using a lightweight, waterproof bag that is stored where it can be reached quickly. He also says families should check the bag regularly and replace food or medicines before they expire.
