Quang Tri province is set to spend about $3.5 million to clear landmines from 2,400 hectares by 2030. The project promises to protect residents and open land for farming and development.
The provincial People's Committee says the 90 billion VND investment will be taken from the province’s medium‑term public investment budget, with the provincial Military Command acting as the investor. The clearance will cover six communes: Hoa Trach, Trung Thuan, Nam Trach, Ben Quan, Vinh Thuy and Sen Ngu.
Under the approved plan, clearance work will reach a depth of 0.5 metres below the ground surface. Operations will include technical surveys, removal, classification, transportation and controlled destruction of mines and unexploded ordnance, following safety regulations.
UXO remnants still threaten the lives and health of local people and block agricultural production, infrastructure construction and other land uses, according to the project description. Removing these hazards is therefore essential for community safety and economic growth.
The project is funded from the province’s medium‑term public investment budget, with the provincial Military Command as investor, and it contributes to the national action programme on post‑war mines for 2026‑2045. Once cleared, the land will be inspected, accepted and handed over for safe use, helping Quang Tri’s long‑term development.
