A man from An Giang Province has just won a huge lottery prize of almost VND200 billion (about US$7.6 million). The story shows how taxes and choices affect a winner’s money.
T.V., a self‑employed resident of An Giang, won the Power 6/55 jackpot in Vietlott’s 1,415th draw. He bought the ticket through Vietlott’s mobile distribution channel using an app that supports the SMS service.
Vietnamese lottery tax is more than VND19.99 billion, about 10 % of the prize value that exceeds VND20 million, and the tax is taken directly from the prize. After this deduction, T.V. received around VND180 billion (US$6.9 million).
T.V. said he has not yet decided how to spend the money and will discuss it with his family. He has already donated VND5 billion (US$195,266) to social‑welfare activities. Earlier, a woman from An Giang also won a nearly VND200 billion jackpot in the Mega 6/45 lottery, the biggest in its ten‑year history.
The case shows that a lottery win brings large taxes and new responsibilities, such as deciding how to use the money and helping others. Winners must plan carefully after the tax is taken.
