Students from Fulbright University Vietnam took the stage at the Youth Theater of Ho Chi Minh City University of Theater and Cinema to perform parts of the Broadway musical Hamilton. The performance shows how a modern show can be used in a classroom.
The show was part of an international conference marking the United States' 250th anniversary, organized by Fulbright University Vietnam. It gave the audience a chance to see history presented in a lively, musical format.
Hamilton mixes hip‑hop and R&B with traditional musical theatre to bring historical events to life. The students performed eleven songs from Lin‑Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton together with eleven excerpts from Ron Chernow’s biography of Alexander Hamilton, under the guidance of experts, director Tony Tong, and the professional team at Honey Musical Vietnam.
This event shows that blending contemporary music and theatre with historical content can help students engage more deeply with the past. Using a popular musical like Hamilton can turn a history lesson into an unforgettable learning experience.
