Harvard’s new class, called the Class of 2030, has 43.2% Asian American students. This is the highest Asian American share at Harvard in ten years, so the change is worth looking at.
The 43.2% share is almost twice the share recorded five years ago. At the same time, the share of Black students fell to 9.3%.
The shift happened three years after the U.S. Supreme Court stopped race‑conscious admission rules. Evidence from the trial showed Asian American applicants had higher academic scores but lower personality ratings from admissions officers.
Harvard also faced more political pressure. In February, the Trump administration sued the university to get individual admissions records. The school got more than 55,000 applications, a 15% rise, and admitted fewer than 4% of them.
