From Russian City to Vietnamese Village: Why Elena Chose to Care for Her Mother‑in‑Law

Từ thành phố Nga đến làng quê Việt: Vì sao Elena chọn chăm sóc mẹ chồng?

Nguồn: Vnexpress

Elena, a 29‑year‑old Russian woman, left the city life of Izhevsk to live in a small village in northern Vietnam. Her story shows how a family tragedy can lead to a permanent, cross‑cultural relocation.

In mid‑2024 Tung’s father was killed in a traffic accident, so the family returned to Vietnam for the funeral. The shock devastated Tung’s mother, who gradually developed dementia and could no longer care for herself.

After seeing how much responsibility her husband carries for his family, Elena said she wanted to share his burden and look after their own relatives. The community’s support and her mother‑in‑law’s worsening condition prompted her to decide to move permanently to Vietnam.

The decision meant giving up her job, familiar surroundings and urban comforts in Russia. She started a new life in the northern Vietnamese countryside, learning Vietnamese and adapting to village routines.

Elena’s move illustrates how personal loss, a sense of family duty, and the help of neighbours can drive a life‑changing migration. It reminds us that caring for loved ones often reshapes where and how we live.
